Magnesium HydroxideThe halogen free flame retardant aluminum composite panel made from our magnesium hydroxide is accredited by UL94-V-0, UBC 26-9, BS 476, DIN 4102 Class B1, and ASTM E 119.
And MDH (Magnesium Hydroxide) price is more competitive than ATH (Aluminum Hydroxide) price.
MDH is better than ATH as halogen free flame retardant in the following point:

1. MDH and ATH are similar when heated. They both create water and metal oxide. Water absorbs heat, and metal oxide covers the surface. But MgO absorb more acid.
2. Magnesium hydroxide (MDH) degrades at 330℃, 100℃ higher than Aluminum Hydroxide (ATH) does, so MDH is better for plastics needing high temperatures.
3. MDH dissociation energy is 1.37kJ/g; ATH dissociation energy is 1.17KJ/g; and thermal capacity of MDH is 17% higher than ATH also. So MDH have higher flame retardant efficiency.
4. Magnesium hydroxide with more carbonization can reduce more smoke.
5. MDH particle is softer than ATH, so less abration will happen during compounding process. It’s good for compounding machine.

Flame-retardant Mechanism of Magnesium Hydroxide Halogen Free Flame Retardant

1. Decomposition of magnesium hydroxide absorbs heat, which is beneficial to reduce the flame combustion temperature.
2. The decomposition of magnesium hydroxide create water, it’s not only the coolant, also reduce the smoke density as thinner.
3. The decomposition of magnesium hydroxide creates MgO, which is featured with big specific surface. So it is easy to absorb smoke and cover the combustible material.
